BTS Singer J-Hope to Begin Mandatory Military Service

Band member of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS J-Hope is expected to begin his mandatory South Korean military service on April 18th, Tuesday.

J-Hope, whose full name is Jung Ho-Seok, is the second member of the band to report for military service since BTS went on hiatus in 2022. Jin, the oldest member of the K-pop group began his military service in December 2022.

J-Hope is set to begin his five-week basic training at an army boot camp in the Ganwon province on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old singer shared a picture of himself with a buzzcut on the South Korean social media app Weverse on Monday. He also shared a note saying "I love you, ARMY. I'll go and come back safely!"

In a live stream for fans, J-Hope said that the military service "will be a new experience, and I will be learning to fit into a new society, and I'm excited about that."

The group's agency HYBE had confirmed on April 1st that J-Hope would begin his military service, however, they did not reveal specific details in order to avoid fans and other people from crowding at the entrance ceremony, which is reserved for military personnel and their families only.
