Dubai Airport Plans to Include a Quiet Room for Autistic Passengers

Dubai Airports is making efforts to promote inclusivity and accessibility for travelers with autism and hidden disabilities. Collaborating with the Dubai Autism Center, the airport has introduced measures to ensure a smoother journey for individuals with specific needs.

One significant improvement is the implementation of an autism-friendly route, which grants priority access through essential airport checkpoints, including check-in and passport control. To further enhance the passenger experience, Dubai Airports has employed specially trained staff recognizable by their sunflower pins. These staff members are equipped to provide support and assistance to individuals of determination and those with hidden disabilities.

Passengers can now obtain a Sunflower lanyard at the airport, signaling their desire to utilize this valuable service. This initiative has been underway for over a year, and in November 2022, Dubai International Airport was proudly awarded an autism-friendly certificate, recognizing its efforts to create a more inclusive environment for travelers with disabilities.

Looking ahead, Dubai Airport is committed to extending its support. Future plans include the construction of quiet rooms, designed specifically for individuals who may experience sensory overload. These dedicated spaces will offer relief and comfort to those in need, aligning with the vision to make Dubai a leading disability-friendly city globally, as outlined in UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021.

This partnership between Dubai Airport and the Dubai Autism Center signifies an important step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive travel environment for all individuals, regardless of their unique needs.
