The Top 10 Busiest Airports in the World

China has dominated the new rankings of the world’s 10 busiest airports, with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at the top according to Airports Council International (ACI).

Seven airports in China dominated the top 10 total passengers list, with the other three located in the US.

The former busiest airport in the world, Atlanta in Georgia, US, fell into second place after 22 years on top.

Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the drop of many airports from their rankings.

Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport and London's Heathrow dropped out of the top 10 rankings for total passengers in 2020. On the international passengers’ side, Dubai International Airports ranked first.

DXB Airport in Dubai are the busiest airport in the Middle East in 2021 according to Cirium.

“The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on global passenger traffic brought aviation to a virtual standstill in 2020 and we continue to face an existential threat,” said ACI World director general Luis Felipe de Oliveira.
