Etihad Confirms No Fire On EY343 Flight from Chennai

Etihad Airways, UAE's national carrier, has issued a clarification following media reports suggesting a fire incident on one of its aircraft preparing to depart from Chennai International Airport to Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport.

Earlier reports claimed that emergency services responded promptly, all passengers were safely disembarked, and no injuries were reported. However, Etihad officials emphasized that the aircraft's return to the gate was due to a technical issue and denied the presence of any fire onboard.

"Contrary to some media reports, there was no fire onboard the aircraft. The aircraft returned to stand due to a technical issue," the airline stated.

Cause of the Delay

The airline clarified that flight EY343 from Chennai to Abu Dhabi experienced delays after the aircraft returned to the gate and passengers were subsequently disembarked.

"Emergency services were activated as a precautionary measure, based on the Chennai International Airport (MAA) safety protocols," Etihad said.

The carrier assured passengers that the flight would depart approximately three hours behind schedule. "We apologise for the inconvenience and our teams are assisting guests with their onward journey," the airline stated.

Etihad encouraged passengers traveling on EY343 to update their contact details to receive flight updates via SMS or email. Additionally, the airline reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of its guests and crew.

"The safety and comfort of our guests and crew remains Etihad’s highest priority," the airline added.
