How Hubble Unmasked Earth’s Closest White Dwarfs

Researchers from the University of Warwick and the University of Colorado Boulder have used the Hubble Space Telescope’s ultraviolet spectrograph to hunt for the elusive stars, also known as Stellar Remnants, to peek out from the shadow of a brighter neighbor. According to the report in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS), the teams have succeeded in finding what’s out there in their search for this elusive group of stars that would otherwise remain undetected-a type of star made of leftover degenerate stellar matter-known as white dwarfs. Here are 10 of the closest and most compelling authentic white dwarf stars.
