Husband Sues Wife Over a AED 74,000 Watch in the UAE

The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court of Appeal dismissed a man's appeal to receive repayment for an AED 74,000 watch he claimed to have bought for his wife.

The Court upheld the First Instance Court's Ruling and turned down the husband's lawsuit.

The man had requested a repayment of AED 74,050, which represented the watch's price.

The husband affirmed that he had bought the watch upon the wife's request and that she had promised to reimburse him later.

In addition to the reimbursement for the watch, the husband also sought interest at a nine percent rate from the time he initiated the lawsuit until she repaid him.

He also requested the court to obligate his wife to reimburse him and to have her cover the legal expenses associated with the case, including the attorney fees.

In the husband's legal claim, he shared that his wife had requested him to buy the watch for her, which she intended to sell and eventually return the funds to him.

He claimed that he used money from his personal bank account to purchase the watch.

He alleged his wife for not selling the watch and not reimbursing him.

However, the First Instance Court determined that there was no substantial evidence for the husband's case and they instructed him to bear the legal costs.

Nonetheless, the husband sent his appeal to the Court of Appeal to challenge the court's decision.

During the appeal proceedings, the husband had no witnesses to support him, while his wife shared that she had paid for the watch with her own money, which was now with her husband.
