India Puts Its Pragyan Rover to 'Sleep' After a Successful Mission

India switched off its moon rover, Pragyan, after it had successfully completed its two-week assignment conducting experiments, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

The Pragyan rover from the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was "set into Sleep mode" but with batteries charged and receiver on.

"Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments!" ISRO said. "Else, it will forever stay there as India's lunar ambassador."

Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
The Rover completed its assignments.

It is now safely parked and set into Sleep mode.
APXS and LIBS payloads are turned off.
Data from these payloads is transmitted to the Earth via the Lander.

Currently, the battery is fully charged.

India made history by becoming the fourth nation, after the US, the former Soviet Union, and China, to successfully land a spacecraft on the Moon with its Chandrayaan-3 mission. Pragyan was also the first craft to reach the lunar south pole.

That was India's second attempt in launching a spacecraft to travel to the moon after the failure of the 2019 mission, which ended in a crash.
