Kerman Twin Blasts in Iran Killed At least 95 and Injured 211

The city of Kerman in Iran witnessed two explosions near the burial site of the former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani on Wednesday, Jan. 3, killing at least 95 individuals and injuring at least 211.

The two explosions occurred during a ceremony near the burial site as supporters of the former leader had gathered there to mark four years since the leader's assassination in Baghdad. 

The attack was called the deadliest attack in the history of Iran.

The news agency Tasnim reported that the two bombs were placed in two briefcases, which were placed at the entrance of the cemetery.

No group has claimed responsibility for the explosions yet. 

The first explosion took place 700 meters from Soleimani's grave and the second explosion took place one kilometer away from the grave. 

Various videos are circulating on social media showing ambulances arriving at the site and transporting the victims to the nearest hospitals. 

Kerman is located 820 kilometers southeast of Tehran, the capital of Iran. 

Among the killed people were three paramedics who had arrived at the site after the first explosion and were killed in the second explosion. 

Some injured people who were being treated got trampled on in the pandemonium after the explosions. 

President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi condemned the attack and the country declared Thursday, Jan. 4 as a day for national mourning.
