Iran Missiles Cause Multiple Casualties in Israel

What was supposed to be a crucial weekend for diplomacy just turned into a major flashpoint in the Middle East.

Iran launched a series of missile attacks on central and northern Israel overnight, reportedly in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes that targeted key Iranian infrastructure — including a nuclear facility and the Shahran oil depot in Tehran.

The Israeli military confirmed the strikes on Iranian soil, marking a significant escalation in the already-tense standoff.

According to Israel’s national emergency services, at least 10 people have died and over 100 others were injured in the Iranian strikes, which hit several residential areas. Photos from the scene show damaged homes and emergency responders racing through debris-strewn streets.

Iranian state TV boasted about the “destruction of the Iron Dome” but offered only brief and vague mention of the Israeli attacks on Tehran, with no casualties reported by local media.

Meanwhile, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran warned of a “more severe” response if Israel doesn’t back down. In contrast, former US President Donald Trump distanced America from the strikes, stating the U.S. was “not involved” and insisted that a deal between Iran and Israel could still be “easily” made — though that now seems unlikely.

The bigger picture?

The missile exchange has derailed a major round of nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran that was set to take place this Sunday, with mediator Oman confirming the dialogue has been cancelled.

As morning breaks in Israel, the world watches with bated breath. The situation is developing rapidly — and any hopes for de-escalation feel more fragile than ever.
