Strawberry Moon in the UAE: Best Time and Places to Catch It

A rare full moon known as the Strawberry Moon will appear over the UAE skies tonight, June 11. Moonrise is expected at 7:32 PM, with the moon setting the next morning at 5:55 AM on June 12.

This marks the final full moon of Spring — and it won’t appear this low in the sky again until 2043, according to the Dubai Astronomy Group.

You don’t need a telescope to enjoy it

No need for fancy gear — the Strawberry Moon will be clearly visible to the naked eye across the country. “You can just step outside and look towards the eastern horizon after moonrise,” said Khadijah Hasan Ahmed, Operations Manager at the Dubai Astronomy Group.

While no equipment is necessary, she added that binoculars or a telescope can enhance the experience.

Best viewing spots in the UAE

Clear skies and open views will make for the best moon-watching. Great spots include:

  • Beaches

  • Deserts

  • Rooftops or high buildings

  • Any place with an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon

Even within the city, as long as you have a good line of sight eastward, you’ll be able to spot it.

A full strawberry moon will soon rise: What does that mean?

Will it actually look like a strawberry?

Not exactly. Despite the name, the Strawberry Moon won’t appear pink or red. Instead, it usually looks golden or orange when it rises, especially when it's low in the sky. This color comes from how the atmosphere scatters light at low angles.

This full moon is known for its bright and striking appearance, especially just after it rises. It's not only a rare sighting for the year — it also serves as a simple, peaceful way to feel more connected to nature and the night sky.

So if you're out tonight, look up and enjoy the show — the next time this moon appears this low won’t be for another 18 years.
