With the promise of environment-first practices and harvesting a sustainable tomorrow, NRTC Group proudly hosted a remarkable evening of culinary delight and sustainable advocacy on 2 November 2023. This dazzling event included some of the most renowned industry-leaders of the region – each with a shared ambition, supporting COP28, and the broader UAE vision. The objective was to set a roadmap and come together as a global community to champion sustainability, master food security, and achieve efficient practices for a greener tomorrow.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Held at the Secret Garden in the heart of Dubai, Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, and attended by some of the most prestigious personalities within the region, NRTC Group hosted an evening that comprised of everything that is fresh, green, and delightfully gourmet.

An event that glittered with the partnership of esteemed entities from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), The Emirates Culinary Guild, Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, Ghitha Holding, Hilton, Del Monte Foods, Inc, Emirates Crop One, SanLucar Company, Bustanica, International Holding Company (IHC), 7awi Media Group, NRTC Group and Mirak, this evening included talks about readjusting culinary practices, sharing industry-leading strategies, sparking creativity, promoting environmentally-friendly practices and much more within the Hospitality Industry.

Some of the event highlights included the use of local produce only and promote what is possible by Mr. Andy Cuthbert, President of The Emirates Culinary Guild. He compelled the rationale of promoting what’s possible by only including what’s grown locally and seasonally within each of the menus.

As the evening advanced, Mr. Sebastian Nohse, Senior Culinary Director of Hilton, revealed that an astounding 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted annually which on an average equal to 74 to 185 kilos per person. Furthermore, he also addressed that 30% of annual global emission comes from food production.

“We need to unite and share our experience. We need to pull together as a global community, as a food safety industry to do better,” he expressed.

Revealing some of the strategies to follow, he explained that the future of hospitality must be sustainable which includes a readjustment of current practices such as responsible sourcing, choosing local produce, working with seasonal ingredients, picking responsible suppliers, supporting food security ministries, leveraging AI to make data-driven decisions that consequence in high-impact actions, and more.

Following him, Mr. Issa Khoory, Ghitha, NRTC Group expressed that Ghitha Holding, NRTC and Mirak are committed to embracing sustainability. Some of their ongoing efforts include boosting agriculture, responsible water usage, promoting sustainable transportation, waste reduction and environmentally friendly practices to mention a few.

Another major highlight of this event was the actualization of the Dubai Economic Agenda - D33 by Mr. Jassim Abdulrahman Al Awadhi, Department of Dubai Economy and Tourism. This agenda ambitions to address critical challenges in the next decade such as land storage and water security while inspiring growth by investing in human skills development, transforming it to a knowledge-based economy.

This eye-opening evening was closed off by Mr. Andy Abbar, CEO of 7awi Media Group, who highlighted the power of content, storytelling, and the impact that it has to shape opinions, inspire change and mobilize action.

“Sustainability is not a trend – it’s a moral imperative. We must use our platforms in an appropriate way to reach audiences. From our end, 7awi has been paper free in the last two years. We as a media house, prioritize stories and content that compels audiences to make sustainable choices. With this at the forefront, we launched inc.com for COP28 which sets sustainability at the forefront.”
