Abu Dhabi to Have a Medical City for Women and Children

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed has approved the development of a medical city in Abu Dhabi dedicated to medical care of women and children.

What Will the New Medical City Offer? 

The new medical city will establish Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) as a center of excellence in pediatric care. 

The new medical city will include SKMC, a specialised hospital that will provide medical care for mothers and their newborns, a rehabilitation complex, and a mental health center for women and children.

Sheikh Khaled has given directions to develop high-quality, specialized facilities for the new medical city.

More than 200 doctors will be available at the new medical city with 29 specialities, including the following:

• oncology
• ophthalmology
• neurosurgery 
• liver, kidney and bowel transplantation 
• gastroenterology  
• cardiac medicine

The medical city will have a capacity of 250 beds including 100 for long-term pediatric care and 10 for mental health care.

The new medical city will also be the center of research and innovation in the field of children's health.

Other Developments

Sheikh Khaled also approved the transfer of the Corniche Hospital facilities to a hospital near Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center, which will open in 2027. 

The relocated hospital will have 205 beds, with 90 dedicated to children and 15 to maternity wards.

The hospital will have 120 doctors and 460 nursing and midwifery specialists who will provide services for obstetrics, gynaecology, fertility, assisted reproductive services, and women's mental and general well-being.
