In a move designed to accommodate the emirate's growing population and tourism sector, the Sharjah City Municipality has announced that paid public parking hours will be extended until midnight effective July 1, 2026.

The new regulation applies to all paid parking spaces across the cities of Sharjah, Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Al Dhaid. This includes areas currently marked by yellow signboards, which will now align with blue-sign zones that have previously operated until 12:00 AM. The decision impacts approximately 124,000 paid public parking spaces throughout the emirate.

Under the revised schedule, parking fees will be applicable from 8:00 AM to midnight. However, the municipality confirmed that parking will remain free on Fridays and official public holidays, with the exception of specific designated zones where fees are levied seven days a week regardless of the holiday status.

Responding to Demand and Growth

Hamed Al Qaed, Director of the Public Parking Department at Sharjah City Municipality, stated that the decision follows an extensive study of parking patterns, occupancy rates, and demand levels. The initiative aims to keep pace with Sharjah's rapid urban, demographic, and tourism expansion.

"The emirate's expanding economic and commercial activity has increased the need to operate public parking facilities until midnight to improve availability, curb misuse of parking spaces, and address parking-related challenges," Al Qaed explained. He highlighted that residents, visitors, and subscribers to seasonal parking plans frequently struggle to find available spots after 10:00 PM, particularly in busy commercial districts and near restaurants and cafes.

Benefits for Subscribers and Visitors

A key component of the new policy is the enhanced benefit for seasonal parking subscription holders. While existing subscription rates will remain unchanged, the daily exemption period for these users will increase from 14 hours to 16 hours. Previously, subscriptions covered parking costs up to 10:00 PM; under the new rules, coverage extends until midnight, offering greater flexibility without additional cost.

The municipality anticipates that the extended hours will encourage better utilization of public parking spaces, reduce instances of random and illegal parking, and increase turnover in high-demand areas. These measures are intended to support Sharjah's reputation as a premier destination for both living and leisure.

Payment Channels

Motorists are urged to adhere to the updated operating hours and settle fees through the available channels, including SMS services and the Sharjah Digital application. Residents and visitors are also encouraged to utilize seasonal parking subscriptions, which can be processed quickly through the municipality's digital platforms.
