Aryna Sabalenka Defeats Anisimova to Retain US Open Crown

Aryna Sabalenka has cemented her status as the "queen of Queens" after successfully defending her US Open title with a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova on Saturday.

The Belarusian world No.1 has now won four Grand Slam titles and became the first woman to clinch consecutive US Open championships since Serena Williams’ streak from 2012 to 2014.

The Arthur Ashe Stadium final was a battle of two of tennis’ biggest hitters, but Sabalenka’s discipline made the difference—she kept her unforced errors to just 15, compared to Anisimova’s 29.

"I want to thank everyone who came here, who flew in to be there in my box," Sabalenka said, overwhelmed with joy after sealing the match with an unreturnable serve. "I'm going to reach a lot more finals and I don't care where you are in the world, I want you in my box."

American Hope Falls Short

Playing in only her second major final, New Jersey-born Anisimova had the crowd firmly on her side but struggled to maintain momentum against the relentless Sabalenka.

"It's been a great summer, losing in two finals in a row is great but it's also super hard," the 24-year-old admitted, breaking down in tears. "I didn't fight hard enough for my dreams today."

Despite the heartbreak, Anisimova’s performance ensures she will climb to world No.4 in the rankings, continuing her comeback after an eight-month break to focus on her mental health.

A Hardcourt Dominator

Since 2022, Sabalenka has not missed a hardcourt major final, highlighting her dominance on the surface. Saturday’s victory also marked her 100th Grand Slam match win.

In a light-hearted moment, Sabalenka celebrated by slapping her trainer’s bald head, a quirky ritual that has become her trademark.

Offering encouragement to her rival, Sabalenka added: "I know it hurts but girl, when you win your first one – and you are going to win it – you will realise that all the tough lessons are worth it."

With her latest triumph, Sabalenka has further underlined her reputation as the most formidable force in women’s tennis today.
