Dubai Pushes New Plan to Make School Fees More Affordable

Dubai is tackling the hot topic of high school fees head-on. The emirate just announced an action plan to encourage private schools to lower costs for parents—without cutting corners on quality.

How it works

Under the plan, schools that commit to offering reasonable fees will get perks like reduced land and building rents. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) will also review how schools manage expenses to make sure operations stay efficient.

Why now?

KHDA Director General Aisha Abdulla Miran said social media chatter and parent complaints about fees sparked the move. One expat even claimed she’d spent Dh1 million on her kids’ education in Dubai. “We want families to have access to good education at affordable prices,” she explained.

Support for teachers too

The initiative also covers teachers, with cheaper housing options in the pipeline to help attract and retain top talent.

Big picture: Education 33 Strategy

Dubai aims to open 100 new private schools by 2033. So far, 15 have opened in the past two years, with more applications under review. Right now, 227 private schools serve nearly 390,000 students from 185 nationalities.
