Heavy Vehicle Restrictions Start in Abu Dhabi on Jan 27

To improve traffic flow and road safety in Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) has announced updated restrictions on heavy vehicles. This includes freight trucks, tankers, and other large vehicles. Starting January 27, 2025, these vehicles will face limited movement during peak hours on city roads.

What’s Changing?

From Monday to Thursday, heavy vehicles will be restricted during two key periods:

  • Morning: 06:30 to 09:00
  • Evening: 15:00 to 19:00

On Fridays, heavy vehicles will be banned during:

  • Morning: 06:30 to 09:00
  • Evening: 11:00 to 13:00

These changes are aimed at reducing traffic congestion and minimizing the risk of accidents caused by the interaction between heavy and light vehicles during busy times.

Why This Change?

The decision comes in response to the rising number of vehicles in Abu Dhabi. Heavy vehicles moving alongside lighter traffic often cause speed variations, leading to accidents and delays. By limiting their movement during peak hours, authorities aim to create smoother traffic conditions and improve road safety for everyone.

Additionally, these restrictions help protect the city’s infrastructure, particularly roads and bridges, from damage caused by the heavy loads carried by trucks and other large vehicles.

Working with Abu Dhabi Police

Abu Dhabi Mobility is collaborating closely with the Abu Dhabi Police to ensure that heavy vehicle owners follow the new restrictions. This will help maintain order and prevent violations.

As the new regulations roll out, drivers of heavy vehicles will need to plan their routes and timing carefully to avoid penalties and ensure safe and efficient travel on Abu Dhabi’s roads.

This update is a part of Abu Dhabi's continuous effort to keep its roads safe, efficient, and sustainable for everyone.
