Balvinder Singh Sahni, also known as Abu Sabah, built a flashy public image through extravagant spending and a high-profile presence in Dubai. He famously paid AED 33 million for the number plate “5” in 2016, owned a fleet of luxury cars, and shared his lifestyle on Instagram with over 3.3 million followers, often posting from luxury stores or alongside exotic animals like lions and chimpanzees.

Court Conviction and Financial Penalties

Dubai’s Fourth Criminal Court sentenced Sahni to five years in prison and fined him AED 500,000 for money laundering. Authorities also seized assets worth AED 150 million. After serving his jail term, he will be deported from the UAE.

Sahni was the founder and chairman of the Raj Sahni Group (RSG), a major property developer in Dubai. The company owns several prominent properties, including the Burj Sabah in Jumeirah Village Circle, the Qasr Sabah buildings in Dubai Sports City, commercial buildings in Business Bay, and a luxury hotel project in Sufouh Gardens.

Criminal Investigation Uncovers Financial Crimes

An investigation launched in late 2024 revealed a complex web of illegal financial activity, including fake invoices and shell companies used for laundering money. Despite his connections and public image, Sahni’s business practices couldn’t escape scrutiny.
