Ready for a Faster Stay? Dubai Launches Citywide Contactless Hotel Check-In

Dubai just dropped a citywide upgrade for travelers: a one-time biometric, fully contactless hotel check-in that works across the entire city. No more standing in long lobby queues or digging through bags for IDs after a long flight — just scan, upload, and go straight to your room.

How the New System Works

The check-in process happens entirely on your phone. Guests upload their ID and biometric data once, and that’s it — the system remembers you until your ID expires.

So on your next trip to Dubai, you basically “face-scan and enter.” The data is securely stored and instantly authenticates you on your future bookings, speeding up return visits — a nice touch, especially since nearly a quarter of Dubai’s visitors are repeat travelers.

Why Dubai Is Doing This

The move is part of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to turn Dubai into the world’s smartest, smoothest travel hub.

Launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project is designed to make every arrival feel futuristic. He says the tech boosts Dubai’s goal of being a global leader in both tourism and innovation.

Hotels Can Plug In Immediately

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) built the system with several partners, and hotels — plus holiday homes — can integrate it right into their apps and websites. The plan is to bring this tech beyond hotels too, like car rentals and other travel services, for a seamless citywide “smart trip.”

Part of a Bigger Digital Push

This isn’t Dubai’s first high-tech flex. The city already has smart tunnels at DXB that cut passport control to seconds. With more than 15.7 million visitors in the first ten months of 2025 alone, these innovations help keep things moving — literally.

Dubai’s hospitality scene stays stacked with over 820 hotels and hotel apartments, all set to plug into this new system and give guests a smoother, faster, no-fuss travel experience.
