The horse "Banishing," owned by Saudi Sharaf Mohammed Al-Hariri, claimed victory in the second round, "Godolphin Mile," during the 2026 Dubai World Cup event, adding this achievement as a milestone in the history of Saudi equestrianism in an evening hosted at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Saturday.

Pride and gratitude to the leadership

Mr. Sharaf Al-Hariri expressed his pride in the achievement, saying: "Praise be to Allah for this important victory in the Dubai World Cup competition. I extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for their ongoing support of equestrian sports."

He continued: "I also express my thanks to the Minister of Sports and the President of the Equestrian Authority for their great interest and consistent support. I dedicate this achievement to the honorable Saudi people."

Outstanding excellence in the mile race

The victory was achieved thanks to the skill of the jockey Silvestre de Sousa, trained by David Jackson, in the race allocated for purebred hybrid horses over a sandy distance of 1600 meters (Grade 2). The decisive performance of the horse "Banishing" enabled it to finish the race in its favor, marking a distinctive presence in one of the evening's highlights with a prize fund of one million dollars.

A global event with massive prizes

The Dubai World Cup is considered one of the most important and expensive horse races worldwide, with total prizes reaching $30.5 million distributed across nine rounds, featuring elite horses from more than 12 countries. The main race stands out with massive prizes amounting to $12 million.

Historical achievements

Sharaf Al-Hariri boasts a record filled with excellence, having previously won the Saudi Cup in 2024, considered one of the most expensive horse races in the world, with the horse "Senor Pescador" crowned in the major and main round. That race, held at King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field in Al-Janadriyah, witnessed fierce competition among numerous distinguished horses and international jockeys from the United States and Japan.
