About Dubai Polo Gold Cup 

The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series was founded in 2009 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. It is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, recognized as one of the most prestigious events on the international polo calendar. Accordingly, it attracts VIP’s, dignitaries, local and international media, society figures, and famous personalities 

Dubai Poli Gold Club Includes five tournaments, The Silver Cup, Gold Cup, Polo Masters Cup, Dubai Challenge Cup, and the Dubai Cup. Polo Gold Cup Dubai is the best polo tournament worldwide since it is the only tournament series with this exclusive accreditation in The GCC and MENA Region. Polo Gold Cup Dubai tournament is played under strict international supervision, according to the HPA rules and provision of its umpires.   

Dubai Polo Gold Cup in a Timeline  

• 2009: Founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor.  

• 2012: The Gold Cup was recognized by the World Polo Tour (WPT).  

• 2014: The WPT committee credited The Gold Cup tournament as the highest competition in terms of points within the WPT Challenge Cup category, elevating it to 50 points for the winner.  

• 2015: the WPT upgraded the Gold Cup Tournament from ‘Challenge Cup’ to the highly coveted ‘WPT Cup’, resulting in winners receiving 60 points for the first time.   

• 2017: The Gold Cup tournament was moved up to the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners 80 points.  

Note that the Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup are ranked under the WPT Challenge Cup Category – with winners receiving 50 and 20 points respectively.
