Sotheby's Launches $9.7M Luxury Auction in Abu Dhabi

Sotheby’s has expanded its footprint in the Middle East with the launch of a new summer online auction in the UAE capital. Titled “Abu Dhabi Collectors’ Edit: Materiality,” the sale runs from June 24 to July 10, 2026, with a pre-sale estimate valued between $6.6 million and $9.7 million.

Featuring just over 30 curated lots, the auction explores the significance of rare and precious materials in the creation of high-demand luxury objects. The collection spans key categories including jewelry, watches, handbags, automobiles, and high-performance bicycles. According to the auction house, the featured items highlight how substances such as gold, titanium, carbon fiber, and precious gemstones serve as connective threads across diverse luxury sectors through craftsmanship and innovation.

Strategic Growth in the Region

This initiative follows the record-breaking Abu Dhabi Collectors’ Week held last December, which helped establish the UAE capital as an emerging hub for luxury collectors and investors. Josh Pullan, global head of Sotheby’s luxury division, emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the momentum gained from recent initiatives in Abu Dhabi.

Pullan noted that the auction reflects the company’s continued focus on the Middle East, expressing confidence in the region’s rise as a central stakeholder in international luxury conversations. He described the event as a strategic step within their global expansion across luxury markets and collector communities.

Standout Highlights

The auction features several unique highlights, marking the first time five jewelry creations by the Munich-based maison Hemmerle are being offered for sale. Known for experimental material use involving iron, aluminum, wood, copper, and bronze, these pieces align with the auction’s theme. The jewelry selection also boasts a 200-carat Paraiba tourmaline from Mozambique, alongside diamond pieces and necklaces from prestigious brands like Bulgari and Van Cleef and Arpels featuring emeralds and rock crystal.

In the watch category, 13 rare timepieces are included, crafted from materials ranging from gold and platinum to tantalum and hardstone coral. Notable lots include a skeletonized Richard Mille RM35-03 wristwatch once worn by Rafael Nadal, as well as pieces from Patek Philippe, Rolex, F.P. Journe, Urwerk, and Audemars Piguet.

Other standout items include a limited-edition Hermès Midas Sellier Kelly 25 handbag in black box leather with 18-carat yellow gold hardware, a Bugatti Factor ONE bicycle constructed from carbon fiber, titanium, and steel, and automobiles by Bugatti and Mercedes-Benz. Uniquely, the sale also features a Ferrari 126C4 child’s car.

As the auction concludes the season of luxury sales across Sotheby’s key strategic locations, it reinforces Abu Dhabi’s positioning as a center of gravity in the global luxury market.
