UAE Offers Condolences on India Train Collision

The UAE has expressed its sincere condolences and solidarity with India over the victims of a train collision in the city of Balasore in Odisha state, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries.

On Friday evening, a passenger train collided with the derailed coaches of another railway, causing at least 850 injuries and 280 deaths, a state government official told AFP on Saturday. Several people are presumed to be trapped.

The accident occurred close to Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was traveling from the Shalimar station in Kolkata to Chennai Central station at approximately 7:20pm.

This makes the rail accident the country's deadliest in over 20 years.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) expressed UAE's condolences to the Government of India and its people and to families of the victims. It also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, as per the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology of India on Friday, those injured in the accident will receive up to $12,136 in compensation for their losses, $2,427 in compensation for severe injuries, and $606 in compensation for comparatively minor injuries.
