Palestinian journalist Wael Al Dahdouh was awarded the Freedom of Journalism Award for 2024 by the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate.

Al-Dahdouh is the bureau chief of Al Jazeera in Gaza and the Syndicate has awarded him for his work during the Israeli war on Gaza

The award is also dedicated to all Palestinian journalists who are working on the ground right now and face the risk of losing their lives to show the world the brutality of the war in Gaza.

The award is also dedicated to those Palestinian journalists who have already lost their lives in Gaza while shedding light on the war crimes committed against Palestinians.

Al Dahdouh recently lost his son Hamza in Israeli shelling on Sunday, Jan. 7. Hamza was also a journalist for Al Jazeera.

Al Dahdouh had lost other family members some weeks ago including his other son, daughter, wife, and grandson.

Despite these tragedies, Al Dahdouh remains dedicated to his profession and continues his journalistic work in Gaza.

The Freedom of Press Award is given to journalists who work relentlessly to defend press freedom.

This award can also be given to non-journalists contributing to the cause.
