WhatsApp to Launch Screen Sharing Feature for Video Calls

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently announced a new WhatsApp feature that lets users share their screens during video calls. Cross-platform compatibility of the functionality allows users to simply share a live view of their screen with one or more callers.

According to the WhatsApp press release, “Whether sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support – screen sharing lets you share a live view of your screen during the call.”

The newest versions of WhatsApp must be installed for users to access the new feature. A new "Share" icon will appear at the bottom of the screen during a video call. When they tap on it, a screen share permission request will appear. The other individual will then receive a broadcast of their screen.

It should be noted that the feature is being implemented in phases. While some people may already be seeing it on WhatsApp, others might need to wait a little longer.

For video calls, the feature also supports landscape mode. This can be helpful for a larger and more immersive viewing experience when sharing the screen from desktop platforms.

Group calls can use WhatsApp's screen-sharing feature as well. Thus, it can increase WhatsApp's adaptability in business contexts. Users can now use WhatsApp for screen sharing instead of previous alternatives like Google Meet and Zoom.
