Air Arabia First in Region to Accept AE Coin for Flights

Air Arabia is stepping into the future of digital payments by becoming the first airline in the region to accept stablecoin for flight bookings. The Sharjah-based low-cost carrier has teamed up with Al Maryah Community Bank (Mbank) to enable payments through AE Coin, the UAE’s first dirham-backed stablecoin.

The new feature is available via the AEC Wallet App, allowing travelers to use AE Coin when booking flights directly on Air Arabia’s official website.

What Is AE Coin and How Does It Work?

AE Coin is a stablecoin backed 1:1 by the UAE dirham. Unlike other cryptocurrencies that tend to fluctuate in value, AE Coin maintains a stable price by being tied to a government-issued currency.

This means Air Arabia customers can enjoy digital payments that are secure, fast, and come with lower transaction fees—without the usual volatility associated with crypto.

The coin was introduced earlier this year in a joint move by three major UAE-based entities: HC, ADQ, and First Abu Dhabi Bank. It’s part of the country’s broader push toward integrating blockchain-based solutions into everyday financial services.

What This Means for UAE Travelers

With this new option, UAE-based flyers can now book flights using AE Coin as a payment method. It’s a step forward in the region’s digital transformation, especially as more users explore blockchain and crypto technologies for practical, everyday use.

This also supports the UAE's vision of becoming a global hub for digital finance and Web3 innovations.

Available Now via AEC Wallet

To use AE Coin for flight payments, users must have the AEC Wallet App linked to their account. The payment option appears during checkout when booking through Air Arabia’s website.

As of now, the feature is available only in the UAE, where AE Coin is legal tender under Mbank’s digital banking infrastructure.

This move by Air Arabia not only sets a new benchmark in regional aviation but also shows how crypto is starting to blend into mainstream services in the UAE. With secure, stable, and fee-friendly transactions, stablecoin payments could soon become the norm for everyday purchases—including your next flight.
