Over the weekend, major UAE carriers including Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, and Air Arabia extended the suspension of several flights due to safety concerns and operational limitations. Passengers are being urged to double-check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Emirates and flydubai Suspend More Flights

Emirates confirmed it has extended the suspension of flights to Amman and Beirut until Sunday, June 22, 2025. Flights to Tehran, Baghdad, and Basra are on hold until Monday, June 30, 2025. Travellers connecting through Dubai to any of these destinations will not be allowed to board their originating flights for now.

Flydubai has also paused services to and from Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria until June 16, Minsk and St Petersburg until June 17, and Iran, Iraq, and Israel until June 20. The airline noted that affected passengers would not be accepted for travel if they were connecting through Dubai.

Both airlines have advised passengers to check their flight status on their official websites or contact their travel agent for rebooking options.

Regional Airspace Closures Impact Thousands of Flights

Due to escalating tensions, countries such as Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Israel have shut down sections of their airspace to commercial aircraft. According to Flightradar24, these closures have affected up to 3,000 flights daily, either by forcing cancellations or rerouting.

Airlines are closely monitoring the situation and have started restoring some flights where conditions are deemed safe.

“We’ve reinstated select flights where possible and will continue reviewing routes,” flydubai said in a statement, adding that safety remains the top priority.

Etihad, Air Arabia Also Affected

Etihad Airways announced the suspension of its Abu Dhabi–Tel Aviv route until June 22. The airline is also rerouting other flights to avoid affected airspace.

Sharjah-based Air Arabia confirmed that several of its services have been delayed or cancelled until June 15. Passengers will be notified of changes via SMS and email.

UAE Airports Urge Caution

Airports across the UAE, including Dubai International (DXB), Al Maktoum International (DWC), and Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH), have issued alerts asking passengers to stay informed. Disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are expected to continue through Monday, June 16.

“Please check with your airline before heading to the airport,” AUH advised in a social media post.

Dubai Airports also acknowledged the impact of airspace closures over Iran, Iraq, and Syria on their operations.
