All About the Dubai Reef Project Launched on Friday

Dubai has unveiled plans for the creation of one of the world's largest marine reef developments, signifying a groundbreaking leap in ecological conservation.

The Dubai Reef project, spanning an expansive 600 square kilometers of water, forms a crucial part of the city's initiatives to bolster fish populations, promote sustainable fishing practices, and contribute to enhancing food security.

The project was launched as part of directives from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. It was initiated under the citywide sustainability campaign "Dubai Can."

The program, which includes more than 400,000 cubic meters of reefs, aims to maintain marine life while also being a major contributor to the reduction of carbon emissions and the advancement of marine biodiversity.

Unfolding in four phases, the deployment of the project is slated to commence by the end of Q1 2024, with a targeted completion within a four-year timeframe.

The project aligns seamlessly with the sustainability goals and strategies outlined in COP28, reinforcing Dubai's global standing as a prominent advocate for environmental responsibility and innovation.

The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) will spearhead this initiative, in collaboration with the Regulatory Committee on Fishing of Living Aquatic Resources in Dubai, Dubai Chambers, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), and Nakheel, as key partners in this ambitious venture.
