Dubai Customs Slashes Tax on Overseas Parcels for Online Shoppers

Dubai Customs has raised the threshold at which duty must be paid on international purchases, suspending an earlier customs duty on goods with a value of more than AED 300 that was introduced in January.

It has been decided to re-introduce the previous threshold of AED 1,000, effective March 1st, 2023, according to an email sent out by Dubai Customs.

"Kindly be informed that Paragraph (a) of Article (2) of Customs Notice 5/2022 related to exemption of consignments with value not exceeding Dhs300/- has been suspended, and that it has been decided to re-establish the previous threshold for exemption of parcels/shipments of Dhs1,000/- effective 01-March-2023 until further notice," the email read.

This means you will have to spend AED 1,000 before you have to pay any tax on your shipments.

Residents shopping internationally now have to pay five percent import customs duty and five percent value-added tax (VAT) if they buy something worth more than AED 1,000.
