Dubai Opens New Bridge to Ease Traffic on Al Qudra Road

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened a new four-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and the link road connecting Arabian Ranches with Dubai Studio City, marking a major step in easing traffic congestion across the area.

Announced on Sunday, February 8, the newly launched 600-metre bridge forms part of the wider Al Qudra Road intersections development project, one of Dubai’s largest ongoing road infrastructure upgrades.

A key traffic corridor for growing communities

The bridge sits along a strategic corridor extending from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Emirates Road, before continuing along Al Qudra Road. Once fully completed, the project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow across several high-density residential and development zones.

RTA also confirmed that the northern bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will open on February 15. The 700-metre structure will provide two lanes in each direction until construction of the southern bridge is completed, serving traffic heading towards Al Qudra City and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Faster journeys, higher road capacity

The full project includes upgrading multiple intersections, constructing bridges spanning a total of 2,700 metres, and widening existing roads across 11.6 kilometres. Once complete, it will boost road capacity and cut travel time by up to 70 percent — reducing average journey times from 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes.

The development is designed to serve residential and commercial areas accommodating approximately 400,000 residents and visitors, including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, DAMAC Hills, Mudon, and The Sustainable City.

Intersection upgrades and new bridges

As part of the intersection upgrade works, RTA is constructing a 700-metre bridge at Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, providing four lanes in each direction. Auxiliary side ramps with two lanes each have been added to ensure smooth traffic movement without disrupting the main carriageway.

Additional infrastructure includes a 500-metre bridge facilitating traffic from Al Qudra Road towards Jebel Ali, and a 900-metre bridge directing vehicles towards Dubai city centre and Dubai International Airport. The project also features 3 kilometres of new service roads along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to improve access to nearby developments.

Once completed, the upgraded intersection will increase capacity from 7,800 vehicles per hour to 19,400 vehicles per hour, while reducing waiting times by 85 percent — cutting delays from 393 seconds to just 60 seconds.

Serving future developments

Further upgrades cover Al Qudra Road from Emirates Road to the existing roundabout serving Town Square Dubai, Mira Developments, and DAMAC Hills 2. These works include widening the road along a 3.4km stretch, constructing a new 4.8km road linked directly to Emirates Road, and adding extra lanes along 4.8km of Emirates Road itself to improve entry and exit movements.

The comprehensive upgrade underscores Dubai’s continued investment in road infrastructure to support rapid urban growth and improve daily commuting experiences.
