Dubai's New Dh332 Million Street Project to Cut Travel Time by Half

Dubai is set to witness a transformative road project to significantly reduce travel time between major roads. The Umm Suqeim Street Project, covering a span of 4.6 kilometers, comes with a hefty price tag of Dh332 million. Its centerpiece is an ambitious plan to construct an 800-meter tunnel featuring four lanes in each direction. This tunnel will revolutionize the intersection with Al Barsha South Street, located near Kings School.

Improving Connectivity and Traffic Flow

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted the project's objective. He emphasized that the venture aims to strengthen connectivity among four crucial traffic corridors: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. The development will amplify street capacity, accommodating an estimated 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. Anticipated outcomes also include smoother traffic flow and a drastic reduction in travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road from 9.7 to 3.8 minutes.

Impact on Residential Areas

Upon completion, the project is slated to benefit burgeoning residential zones, notably Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, along with the Dubai Hills area. These regions collectively house an estimated two million residents, making this initiative a crucial enhancement to facilitate their commuting needs.

The initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. His directives prioritize fortifying Dubai's infrastructure to accommodate its continuous expansion. Following these directives, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, actively supported and monitored the project. The aim is to cater to the city's evolving urban landscape and ensure seamless traffic movement.
