Fire Breaks Out at Carpet Souk in Abu Dhabi's Zayed Port

Emergency services are currently battling a significant fire that erupted Friday morning at the Carpet Souk near Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi. The blaze, which broke out around sunrise, has triggered a major response from both the Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority.

Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported to secure the area and begin extinguishing operations. While specific details regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage to the historic market stalls have not yet been released, officials confirmed that multiple emergency units are on-site working to contain the flames.

The Carpet Souk, a well-known commercial hub located adjacent to the busy Zayed Port, is home to numerous traders specializing in traditional rugs, textiles, and handicrafts. The timing of the fire on a busy Friday morning has raised concerns among local merchants and visitors.

Traffic control measures have been implemented in the immediate vicinity as police manage access for emergency vehicles and ensure public safety. Authorities have advised drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area to facilitate the work of first responders.

At this stage, there have been no immediate reports of casualties. Civil Defence officials are expected to provide further updates later today once the situation is brought under full control and an initial assessment of the damage can be completed.

Residents and business owners in the Zayed Port area are being urged to stay clear of the cordoned zone until the all-clear is given by authorities.
