Abu Dhabi authorities stopped a major drug smuggling attempt after finding nearly AED5 million ($1.4 million) worth of cocaine hidden inside a man's body.

The traveler, who arrived at Zayed International Airport from a South American country, caught the attention of customs officers during inspection. Suspicious behavior led officers from the General Directorate of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security to carry out further checks using advanced screening equipment.

What they discovered was shocking, 89 capsules of cocaine, weighing nearly 1.2kg, were hidden inside the man’s intestines. He was immediately referred to the concerned authorities, who safely extracted the capsules. Officials estimate the street value of the drugs at AED5 million ($1.4 million).

The Authority praised the customs team for their sharp instincts and professional handling of the situation. They also reiterated their commitment to strengthening inspection systems to protect the UAE from the dangers of drug trafficking.
