Fires Reported in Three Locations in the UAE

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates are managing multiple fire incidents across the country, affecting both land-based industrial zones and maritime vessels in UAE waters.

Fujairah Oil Industry Zone

A fire erupted at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone following a drone attack from Iran on Monday, according to UAE authorities. The emirate's media office confirmed that civil defence teams are actively working to bring the blaze under control.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions. Earlier on Monday, the UAE's Foreign Ministry accused Iran of conducting a "terrorist attack" on a vessel affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) as it transited through the Strait of Hormuz. Two drones targeted the ship, though no injuries were reported.

Maritime Incidents

UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported two separate vessel incidents in UAE waters.

The first involved a cargo vessel approximately 36 nautical miles north of Dubai. According to UKMTO, the vessel reported a fire in its engine room, with the cause not immediately known. All crew members were reported safe and accounted for, and authorities are investigating the incident.

A second maritime incident was reported about 14 nautical miles west of Mina Saqr. UKMTO said information from a third party indicated the vessel was on fire and had requested nearby ships to maintain a safe distance. The cause of the fire has not been verified, and no environmental impact has been reported.

Public Safety Measures

UAE authorities issued a series of missile alerts in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi on Monday, urging residents to seek shelter. The Ministry of Interior and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) sent messages between 5pm and 7:50pm warning of incoming air strike threats.

"Air defense systems are currently responding to a missile threat. Please remain in a safe location and follow official channels for warnings and updates," NCEMA stated.

At 7:37pm, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the latest air strike threat had been dealt with, reassuring the public they could "resume normal activities" while following precautionary measures.

Regional Context

This marks the first time such alerts have been issued since a conditional ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran on April 8. The Emirates had previously faced daily barrages of missile and drone strikes from Iran following the outbreak of conflict on February 28.

The UAE Ministry of Interior called on the public to "immediately seek a safe place in the nearest secure building" and to stay away from windows, doors, and open areas during the alerts.

Aviation Impact

Flightradar24, an online platform tracking global air travel movements, reported that flights out of Dubai and Sharjah entered holding patterns during the incidents.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities continue to investigate all three fire incidents. The UAE Foreign Ministry expressed "utmost condemnation and denunciation" of the attacks, calling them a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 on freedom of maritime navigation.

"The UAE called on Iran to stop the treacherous attacks and commit to reopening the strait unconditionally," the ministry statement concluded.
