Hundreds of People Remain Trapped Because of Libya's Floods

The catastrophic floods caused by Storm Daniel in Libya have left hundreds of people trapped in their homes in Derna, and authorities are struggling to rescue them.

More than 2,000 people are feared to be dead in Derna and other cities of Libya.

Four main bridges linking Derna have collapsed, in addition to two buildings and two dams, which collapsed in a city that is 900 kilometers east of Tripoli.

Most eastern cities in Libya have suffered serious damage from the floods.

Hundreds of residents are believed to be trapped in areas difficult to reach as army-backed rescuers try to reach them.

The Tripoli-based government announced three days of national mourning.

A Derna city council emphasized the need for national and international intervention to rescue locals from the floods.
