UAE Refers Social Media Users to Prosecution for Content Standards Breach

The UAE’s National Media Office has referred a group of social media users to the Federal Public Prosecution after finding their posts violated the country’s media content standards.

In a statement, the National Media Office confirmed that it had monitored, reviewed, and evaluated the content shared by these users and found violations of purposeful media standards that align with ethical and social principles.

The office said such measures are part of its ongoing commitment to building a responsible media environment, safeguarding social values, and protecting communities from harmful or non-constructive content. It also called on users to engage with social media platforms in a way that respects media ethics and community values.

The National Media Office highlighted the following key points:

  • The monitoring team operates 24/7 to track and address violations of standards and social values with accuracy.
  • Users found in violation are alerted and urged to comply with national regulations, laws, and directives.
  • These actions are designed to maintain a responsible media landscape and shield communities from non-constructive or harmful material.
