UAE Sends Second Aid Ship to Syria's Latakia Port

The United Arab Emirates has sent a second aid ship, carrying around 2,215 tonnes, to the Port of Latakia in Syria as part of a post-quake recovery plan, following February's deadly earthquake.

This comes in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and as part of Operation Gallant Knight 2. 

The aid included 1,040 tonnes of food supplies, 600 tonnes of relief and medical assistance, and 573 tonnes of building materials.

This is considered the largest aid ship of its kind.

This step was approved by the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence, and was run by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).

Over 50,000 people were killed in Turkey and Syria after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southeast Turkey and northern Syria on February 6th. 

This earthquake is considered one of the most powerful quakes in the region in recent years.
