UAE Sends 10 Ambulances to Syria for Quake Rescue Operations

The United Arab Emirates has sent ten ambulances to Syria -- which was hit by a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday, February 6th -- as part of Operation Gallant Knight 2.

The ambulances are equipped to go off-road and access remote and rugged terrain to speed up medical aid for those unable to travel to the hospitals.

This step was approved by the Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).

This move comes in line with UAE's continuous humanitarian support for the Syrian people in the recovery state, Salem Al Falasi, who is in charge of following up on the needs of the health sector in Syria, said.

More than 46,000 people died when the earthquake hit Southern Turkey and Northern Syria earlier this month.

The two deadly earthquakes in the two countries, which are considered the most powerful quakes in the region in recent years, also left more than a million people homeless.
