India Dismisses Fake News on UAE Citizen Evacuation Plan

India has dismissed as false a report claiming that the country was collaborating with the UAE on an agreement to evacuate Indian citizens via Fujairah port.

MEA FactCheck, the official fact-checking account of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, issued a "Fake News Alert" on Monday, categorically stating that the report lacked any factual basis.

"There is no evacuation being planned," the account stated in a post on X, urging citizens to "stay alert against such false and baseless claims."

The statement followed the circulation of a report alleging that India had signed, or was in the process of negotiating, an agreement with the UAE to use Fujairah port as a potential evacuation route for Indian workers. According to the report, the purported plan involved relocating Indian nationals by ship from the UAE in the event of regional tensions escalating and air travel being disrupted.

The MEA FactCheck account shared screenshots of the report, clearly marking them as fake.

The clarification sparked reactions from users on X, many of whom voiced concerns and called for decisive measures against those disseminating such misinformation.

"What actions was taken for misspread of information?" one user questioned in response to the ministry’s denial.

Another user expressed dissatisfaction, stating that a mere denial was insufficient. "Why don’t they take strict action against these people for spreading Fake News? Just issuing a denial won’t achieve anything," the comment read.

The controversy arises during a period of heightened regional tensions, when unverified claims regarding travel, safety, and evacuation plans can easily gain traction online, often resulting in unwarranted anxiety within communities.

Authorities have consistently urged the public to rely solely on official sources for accurate updates, especially during periods of uncertainty. Residents have also been advised against sharing or promoting unverified claims, as such actions can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation.

India boasts one of the largest expatriate populations in the UAE, with millions of Indian nationals residing and working across the nation. Updates related to their safety, travel, and consular support are typically shared through official government and embassy channels to ensure reliability and clarity.
