The Zayed National Museum has announced the launch of its 2026 Research Fund, inviting scholars and researchers worldwide to apply for funding aimed at preserving and advancing understanding of the United Arab Emirates' rich cultural heritage.

Based in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum unveiled the latest areas of focus for the Dh1 million ($272,000) fund, which seeks to support research projects that contribute to both national and regional heritage studies.

Priority Research Areas

According to the museum's announcement, the fund will prioritize three key areas of inquiry:

  • Sheikh Zayed's Legacy: Projects exploring the life and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who served as the UAE's Founding Father
  • Archaeological and Historical Studies: Research into the nation's archaeology and documented history
  • Intangible Heritage: Documentation and study of oral histories, living traditions, folk stories, and traditional songs

Grant Categories Open Globally

The fund is designed to be inclusive, offering both large and small grant amounts tailored to different project scopes. Applications are welcomed from researchers at various career stages, including established academics and early-career scholars.

"We are committed to supporting scholarly work that deepens understanding of the UAE's heritage and culture, as well as that of the wider region," said a museum representative during the announcement.
