UAE Declares 2026 as the ‘Year of the Family’

The UAE is turning its focus inward next year—with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan officially declaring 2026 as the ‘Year of the Family.’ The announcement was made during the National Family Growth Agenda 2031 meeting in Abu Dhabi, gathering leaders from both federal and local levels.

The move aligns with the country’s long-term vision to support the growth, stability, and strength of Emirati families—seen as the very foundation of a thriving nation.

Why It Matters

Sheikh Mohamed described family growth as a national priority, saying it’s deeply tied to the country’s identity, security, and future. He echoed the words of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan: “The family is the foundation of any strong society.”

The goal is simple—keep families strong, united, and connected to the values that define the UAE: cooperation, harmony, and mutual respect.

The Plan in Action

To bring this to life, a national task force has been formed with over 20 government entities. Their mission? To work on three main tracks:

  • Policies and Programmes: Reviewing laws and systems that impact family growth.

  • Behavioral Interventions: Understanding what motivates families through real community feedback.

  • Reproductive Health: Evaluating and improving health initiatives that support family development.

The new Ministry of Family will play a central role, coordinating efforts across health, education, housing, economy, and media sectors.

Continuing the ‘Years of the Emirates’ Legacy

The “Year of the Family” continues the tradition of annual national themes—like the “Year of Sustainability” and “Year of Giving”—that unite everyone in the UAE around shared goals.

For 2026, the spotlight will shine on strengthening family ties, preserving traditions, and nurturing future generations.
