Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Scheduled to Take Place During COP28

A special edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will be held during the Cop28 UN climate change conference, which the UAE will host from November 30th to December 12th.

The Connect Conference Centre in Expo City, Dubai will host the one-day Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit on December 4th with the United on Climate Action theme at Cop28.

According to event organizer Masdar, the event will discuss topics including investing for inclusion and climate finance and identify strategies to hasten sustainable development. It is being held on Cop28's thematic finance day.

At Cop28, the event will be "critical in maintaining the worldwide climate momentum," stated Masdar.

Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Cop28 President-designate and chairman of Masdar, “As the UAE looks ahead to hosting Cop28, it is vital that we use every opportunity at our disposal to fast-track a just and orderly energy transition and to keep 1.5ºC within reach.”

“Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week was set up by Masdar in 2008 and has grown into a leading global initiative that extends well beyond one week. The special edition at Cop28 provides an important platform for a wider community of key stakeholders to have their voices heard and accelerate a just and inclusive transition to a net-zero future,” he added.

The Paris Climate Agreement, which called for efforts to keep temperature increases to 1.5°C over pre-industrial levels, was signed in 2015, and the COP28 summit is the first to assess the progress made since then.

Every five years, pledges to continue working toward the goal would be evaluated. At Cop28 in the UAE, a "global stocktake" including South Africa and Denmark participation will be conducted for the first time.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will hold events throughout Cop28 in the blue and green zones.
