All That We Know About COP28

The 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is a global event with more than 80,000 delegates expected to participate in it, including 140 heads of state and government, and more than 5,000 media professionals.

COP is held every year to discuss and find solutions for climate change and propose climate-related goals.

Here is what we know about COP28:

Location

COP28 is set to be hosted at Expo City Dubai in the UAE, becoming the second country in the Middle East to host a COP session after Egypt.

This is a fitting location as the principles and long-term sustainability focus behind Expo City coincide with COP's.

  •  Implementation of climate commitments and pledges
  • Inclusion
  • Working together to take concrete action and identifying solutions that contribute to overcoming challenges
  • Seizing opportunities to ensure a sustainable future for present and future generations

Further goals

The climate summit will also serve as a platform for the UAE to promote its view of climate action as an opportunity that drives sustainable economic and social development for all nations.

It will confirm the Gulf country's position as one of the most influential countries concerning sustainable development.

Conclusion

This move to host COP28 complements the UAE's leading role in climate action and multilateral cooperation as the permanent host country for the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the first country in the region to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement, and the first country in the region to launch a Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative.
