Dubai's RTA to Build 19 Rest Stops Lorry Drivers' Safety

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with various companies in the private sector to build 19 rest stops and lay-bys at various roadside locations.

RTA's project includes developing three integrated truck lay-bys and 16 stops in locations where there is an influx of lorries in Dubai.

One of the truck lay-bys will be located at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, near the Jebel Ali Free Zone and Al Maktoum International Airport.

Another one will be located next to Al Tayy Racetrack, near Emirates Road.

The third one will be located near the entrance of Dubai Industrial City.

The 16 rest stops will be built in key locations like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Dubai-Hatta Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Emirates Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, and Al Aweer Road.

The total area for these 19 stops is expected to exceed 300,000 square meters and they will have the capacity to accomodate more than a 1,000 heavy vehicles.

The truck lay-bys will provide drivers with services like diesel-refuelling, vehicle maintenance, accomodations, restaurants, prayer rooms, administrative services, healthcare services, laundry services, and much more.

The 16 rest stops will offer similar services, which will help drivers ensure the maintenance of their heavy vehicles for the journey and help drivers rest during their long travels.

The project has been developed to improve road safety and reduce heavy vehicle accidents by 50 percent.

The project will also streamline traffic during hours when flow of heavy vehicles is inhibited and provide the drivers with convenient services during this time.
