Qatar Appoints First Ambassador to UAE Since 2017

Qatar's Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, appoints an ambassador to the United Arab Emirates after a six-year gap since the UAE cut off all diplomatic and trade relations with Doha during the 2017 GCC crisis.

The Amiri Diwan issued a statement announcing the appointment of "Dr. Sultan Salmeen Saeed Al Mansouri as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates" by the Qatari leader.

Several months following the announcement of both Gulf states regarding the reciprocal reopening of diplomatic missions in Doha and Abu Dhabi, this latest appointment marks the end phase of reconciliation to resolve the 2017 Gulf Cooperation Council crisis.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision to reopen the embassies was made in accordance with the Al-Ula Agreement and reflects the mutual desire of both countries to enhance bilateral relations. The Al-Ula Agreement, a historic accord reached in 2021, played a crucial role in resolving the region's most significant rift.
