Etihad Airways to Reportedly Stop Bangladesh Flights

Etihad Airways will stop flying to Dhaka, Bangladesh from October 29. The airline has not made an official announcement but has confirmed the news to passengers.

According to airline sources, foreign airlines are not able to take money to sell tickets due to the shortage of dollars in the country. Moreover, there has been a passenger crisis recently. 

In 2018, Etihad Airways stopped flying to Dhaka, Bangladesh, after 12 years of operation. The airline has reportedly resisted complying with Bangladesh's aviation regulations.

Within the same year, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) required foreign airlines to appoint General Sales Agents (GSAs) that are owned by Bangladeshi citizens.

Etihad Airways objected to CAAB's decision to require foreign airlines to appoint Bangladeshi-owned GSAs, and suspended operations in Bangladesh as a result. However, in 2020, Etihad Airways applied to resume flights to Bangladesh, through the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates.
