A Luxury Car Scam is Being Used to Rob UAE Residents

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a 42-year-old man to three months in prison for deceiving and stealing from a Gulf national.

The defendant made a fake social media announcement claiming that he was selling luxury cars at affordable prices.

The victim arrived ready to purchase a luxury car for 100,000 dirhams. He put the cash in a white paper envelope and went to meet the seller who took the envelope “to verify the amount,” according to UAE police.

After checking the cash amount, the defendant invited the victim to the company’s address where he was meant to receive the car from a manager named “Abu Ali.”

The victim went to the claimed company’s address, but didn't find Abu Ali. As he proceeded to examine the envelope, he realized that the money had been replaced with pieces of cut white paper that was packed like money.

The defendant was fined with the amount he stole and will be deported after the end of his prison sentence.

He was found to be a member of a gang that creates online scams for those who want to buy luxury cars at cheaper prices.
