Emirates Chairman Says UAE Should Be Off The UK’s Red List 'Soon'

The UAE should be off the UK’s red list travel ban soon according to Emirates Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. “Our officials are already speaking and taking that very seriously; talking to the government and to the officials there to make sure that we should be very soon off the red list,” Sheikh Ahmed told CNBC.

The UAE has been on the UK’s red list travel ban since mid-January, making travel next to impossible for over 150,000 Brits in Dubai. Flights are available for urgent travel, but visitors must quarantine after returning at a cost of £1,750 per person.

And while the UAE is one of the most vaccinated countries on the list and with a falling infection rate, it’s still on the red list due to its travel hub status.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated, “I think first of all, you have to prove to the world that we are in the top three vaccinated (countries). That’s nearly 12 million people have been vaccinated so far, and in the UAE you have only nine 9.5 million people who live here. So that really should make the U.K. government think that we should be off the red list.”
