Oscars 2024 Delayed Because of Pro-Palestine Protestors

The Oscars 2024 ceremony was five minutes behind schedule because several pro-Palestine protestors blocked the red carpet and the entrance of the Dolby Theatre, which delayed many stars from getting to the event on time.

Ahead of the broadcast of the red carpet and even during it, fans kept shouting "Ceasefire Now! Free Palestine!" and other slogans during the protest.

Despite the protests, the stars and guests were able to make it to the venue safely, but many of them made appearances as the Oscars pre-show drew to a close.

The protestors were outside the secure zone and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers eventually cleared routes and intersections after receiving a dispersal order.

Various celebrities on the red carpet also wore badges supporting Palestine and during the ceremony itself, 'The Zone of Interest' writer and director Jonathan Glazer spoke about Gaza.

His film received the award for 'Best International Feature' and during his acceptance speech, he said, "Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people—whether the victims of Oct the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization."

This is not the first time that 'The Zone of Interest' filmmakers have supported Gaza at an awards ceremony. The film's producer James Wilson also shed light on the situation in Gaza during his speech at the BAFTAs 2024
