PH Consulate Brings Baybayin Workshops to Filipino Schools in UAE

Filipino students in the UAE got a special cultural treat recently: learning Baybayin, the pre-Spanish Filipino script, through a hands-on workshop series organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai.

The initiative aimed to connect students with their roots while keeping a centuries-old tradition alive.

Learning Baybayin Firsthand

The Baybayin Workshop Series was led by calligrapher and martial artist Gino Banola, who guided students through the art and history of the script.

Workshops ran from December 3, 2025, to January 22, 2026, hosted at Far Eastern Private School (FEPS) Halwan, FEPS Al Shaba, and United International Private School.

Promoting Filipino Heritage Abroad

This program is part of the Consulate’s broader cultural diplomacy efforts, designed to promote Filipino arts, creativity, and heritage in ways that are fun and accessible for young learners.

Continuing a Tradition

Last year, the Consulate introduced Baybayin during Buwan ng Wika with the Katha workshop, highlighting the importance of preserving this ancient writing system that is now at risk of fading away.
