Riyadh Air in Talks for a New Wider-Body Jets Order

Saudi Arabia's second flag carrier Riyadh Air is reportedly in talks with Boeing and Airbus over a second order of wide-body aircraft to grow its fleet to start operations in the summer of 2025.

The reported order is supposed to be finalized by 2024, according to Chief Executive Tony Douglas' interview with The National at the Arabian Travel Market 2024 in Dubai, UAE.

Riyadh Air has also completed a long-expected order of narrow-body jets. The deal size and plane model will also be revealed in some months.

Riyadh Air placed its first aircraft order in March 2023 when it signed an agreement for 39 Boeing 787 wide-body planes including an option of 33 more to manage long-haul flights.

Riyadh Air is building its fleet to connect the capital of Saudi Arabia with more than 100 destinations by the end of the decade. The airline is expected to build a fleet of 200 aircraft in the first five years of operations, according to Douglas.

The airline's expansion plan aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 to expand the country's aviation sector and attract more international tourists.
